Switchover companion apps - Privacy policy

Each of these apps is a small macOS menu bar utility made by TJ, one habit from Windows restored per app. This one policy covers all six because the answer is the same for each: nothing leaves your Mac. Jump to a section: Mouse · Stats · Snip · Taskbar · Expand · Cheat Sheet.

What none of them do

  • No network access. None of these apps can send or receive data over the internet.
  • No collection. No analytics, usage statistics, crash reports, identifiers or personal information are collected by any of them.
  • No accounts, no sign-in, no advertising.

Switchover Mouse

Reverses scroll direction for a mouse (not a trackpad), turns Option+click into a middle-click, and remaps side buttons to Cmd+[ / Cmd+]. The only permission it can ask for is Accessibility, used to read mouse events and adjust them before they reach the app in front. It never reads the screen, your keystrokes, or any other app's content. Settings are stored in the app's own preferences on your Mac.

Switchover Stats

Shows CPU, memory, network and battery in the menu bar, with a Task Manager-style window and Force Quit. Switchover Stats asks for no permission of any kind: it reads system statistics available to every app (Mach host statistics, sysctl, libproc) and quits only the user's own visible apps, with confirmation.

Switchover Snip

Captures a region, window or screen and opens it in an annotation editor with an on-device "Copy Text" tool. The only permission it can ask for is Screen & System Audio Recording, required by macOS before ScreenCaptureKit can capture screen pixels. The app accesses no audio. Each capture is one still image, taken only after the user chooses a region, window or display; there is no background or continuous capture.

The image is held temporarily in memory. It is persisted only when the user copies it to the macOS clipboard, chooses a save location, or enables an autosave folder. The app never uploads or shares a capture; sharing can happen only through the user's own copy, save or drag action. In-memory data is released when no longer used, while clipboard contents and saved files remain under the user's control. There is no app database, cloud storage or server-side retention. Text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework entirely on-device.

Switchover Taskbar

Shows a taskbar with one button per running app. It uses public window-server information to list apps and NSRunningApplication to bring an app forward. It asks for no protected permission, does not synthesize input and does not read the contents of other apps.

Switchover Expand

Expands a short abbreviation you type into a full snippet. The only permission it can ask for is Accessibility, used to notice when the last few characters you typed match one of your own abbreviations, and to type the expansion in its place. Nothing you type is stored or logged; a short buffer is held in memory only and is disabled automatically in password fields.

Switchover Cheat Sheet

Shows the shortcuts for the app in front, with their Windows equivalents, from a list bundled inside the app. Pressing Control+Option+/ opens it. It asks for no protected permission and does not read another app's content or the screen.

Children

These are general utilities and do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
